Cryptic

I think that they desperately want to become a Big Studio, and that path is through multiple game launches and cross-promotion. Hard to do that with just one game.

I’m not certain cryptic get that those big studios they want to be, polish their games a lot to remove bugs and keep working to make games fun and playable.

Looking at Sony, Shanda Interactive and perfect world. Its what they seem to do.

Ncsoft on the other hand always seem to drop a game rather than run it and grow it steadily.

Wizard 101: Stacking items and floating items

Posted by: warhammermer on: November 12, 2009

In the comments section for the hidden item’s post, two people went through how to make items float and stack.

Now I see Friendly also went through it in a nice way in “How do I make furniture float“.

Now you have no excuse to not have floating books and lamps.

Get lost easily?
Confused about where to go?

The quest guides on the forum are helpful.

I also recently found this one for the untamed quests.

Things I want to do before Midwinter

Posted by: warhammermer on: November 11, 2009

Get my barbarian in perfect world to 20.
-I like this new class and I like the guild I am in.

Get my lord of the ring minstrel to 35.
-I’m finding leveling through the 20s a bit of a nightmare as a minstrel. I keep dying and running is so slow. I like my guild but I die so often. Maybe I just need to run dungeons (see great barrows) until I ride the dps wave to 35.

Try the ff trial I have.
-I have a trial and got the game cheap. Must try it.

Get back into fallen earth.
-I really like the game in beta. This is a game I know I will come back to.

Get my current Guild Wars character to 20.
-My warrior/monk has been working her way through the levels. So 20 isn’t that far away. I’m doing the newbie thing of doing every quest I see.

I don’t really have goals in the other games I’m playing. I am just playing them for fun as I feel like it. My aion partner finds it hard to find the time to play (new girlfriend).

Blizzard microtransactions

If you don’t like them, vote with your money.
The price in the eu verses the us, is enough reason for many.

If you don’t like a company or product do not buy it. There is no reason to do so if you are not happy.

Free Realms: Housing and pets

Posted by: warhammermer on: November 10, 2009

We knew housing was coming. However the pictures look very very cool.

Major changes are coming to the pet trainer job. This is probably part of the idea of making pets more a part of the world.

As part of releasing these new pets and making pet tricks easier, they are changing the pet trainer job into a series of pet trainer trophies. With this update you will earn trophies by asking your pet to do tricks without having to switch to the pet trainer job first!

We will also get to have pets in our houses and have new types of pets like dragons and horses and little dinosaurs.

There is also mention that when you finish the pet trainer trophies that you get a pet.

an exclusive version of one of the new pet types!

Its also mentioned that if your already at level 20 you get the trophies straight away.

Item dyes are going to be added. Its nice, however it does away with some of the sets that are only different by color. Thats probably a good thing though.

Crafting is going to be added via a 2d mini game for dyes in 2010. An auction house and coin shop is on the way.

Fishing is on its way, which will be a new job, fisherman. The fish are being called humorous. Pictures show people fishing in the world without having gone into a mini game.

Also they say each mini game will have a reward wheel you can spin for prizes. Not sure if thats a good idea but its on the way. They also seem to suggest that even combat jobs will be able to be leveled by mini games. Not a bad idea.

We’re even making changes that will let you level ALL of your jobs more quickly and easily just by playing the minigames.

New clothes for the chilly weather

Posted by: warhammermer on: November 9, 2009

Jade Dynasty and Perfect world have new clothes out for autumn.

Jade Dynasty has the plum crest set

Perfect World has the Corsair Set

Ether saga had a sister and father set.

So it looks like perfect world entertainment made an effort to release a new set in each of their games for halloween/autumn.

Free Realms: Changes for new players

Posted by: warhammermer on: November 9, 2009

I came back from holidays and saw this from Tipa.

Now it seems I don’t have to worry about playing all, any more, because Free Realms is no longer free. The Teal Terrapin noticed in a Massively story that SOE is adopting a Wizard101-style “free-mium” model, where your first four levels are free, but after that, you must pay.

Creative Director Laralyn McWilliams insists this was a change players asked for.

Players have asked to try out all of the jobs, and we listened. So as of early November, free player characters that are newly created will be able to play any job (Ninja, Chef, Postman, Kart Driver, Demo Derby Driver, Brawler, Miner, Soccer Star, Archer, Wizard, Medic, Blacksmith, Warrior) in Free Realms up to level five for free. When level four is completed, the job becomes Members Only.

So I followed the link to player verses developer to see that

http://www.freerealms.com/article/detail.action?articleId=572

“Any character created before November 1st, 2009 can still play as a Ninja, Chef, Postman, Kart Driver, Demo Derby Driver, Brawler and Miner all the way to level 20. You also will be able to sample the Member jobs Archer, Wizard, Medic, Blacksmith , Warrior and Soccer Star up to level 5 and Adventurer and Card Duelist all the way to level 20. All characters will also be able to advance through all of the Pet Trainer trophies and earn the exclusive pet.

Characters created after November 1st, 2009 will be able to play all jobs up to level 5 and Adventurer and Card Duelist all the way to level 20. These characters will also be able to advance through all of the Pet Trainer trophies and earn the exclusive pet.”

Phew.

Its a pity for any new player however. Its also a pity that sony felt they needed to make more money this way. The game as it was, was an easy game to add to your playing time.

Jade Dynasty: Expansion

Posted by: warhammermer on: October 29, 2009

November 12th, is the date for the first Jade Dynasty Expansion.

New features include:
•A brand new Race
•2 new factions
•New Zones
•A Transformation system
•A Pet Capture system
•Skyblades now combat enabled

I can’t wait to make a demigod or Athan. Its going to be fun seeing two sides to the story. I know there is all the factions sides too but another angle is still fun.

From the look of the website the immortal females and the immortal males are their own seperate factions. The Balo and the Ardan. Ardan are made by the moon goddess and Balo by the gods as frontline warriors.

Before Shaw Danon, life carried on as it had for centuries. Mankind sought the secrets to immortality, and the five Factions promised to deliver those secrets. But then everything drastically changed, as circumstances of Shaw Danon’s destiny came to fruition.

Shaw Danon’s transformation into the catalyst of change began when he was just a child. The most powerful and evil of Espers, the Sinister Orb, used its power to seize control of a wayward soul, leading him to massacre an entire village. The young Shaw Danon was one of the only survivors of this tragedy. He later gained control of the Sinister Orb for his own purposes.

It is widely recognized that Bloodsmelting an Esper will make both the Esper and its owner more powerful, but will ultimately corrupt one’s soul as the Esper draws upon darker powers. For this basic reason, the Good Factions traditionally forbid this practice.

However, influenced by the dark energy of the Sinister Orb, Shaw Danon chose unimaginable power over his own humanity. From this choice, there was no return.

Because of this decision, a door that was never meant to be unlocked has been opened. Through the Sinister Orb, Shaw Danon (now known as Velonus) opened the gateway to knowledge of Ascension. Since his accidental discovery, the whispers of Ascension have spread and all Factions are scrambling to command this power.

This discovery has not escaped the attention of the Immortals, and has triggered great alarm regarding human desire to evolve into a form they were never meant to achieve. Predictably, humans have rejected all Celestial requests to surrender this power and knowledge.

Fearing a weakening grip over the Mortal Realm, the Immortals have decided to seize control over humanity by sending forth a legion of demigods called the “Athan” to restore balance.

A great crisis approaches. So begins Jade Dynasty: Ascension.
